Kaala : Kya gora kya kaala...sab same hai saala

I haven't seen Kaala. What I have heard about the movie is that it is about don in slums fighting for the rights of land with politicians and land mafia. Its always good to know about different strata of society through movies without actually going into the slums.

My family never intended to watch the movie, thinking it would be typical Rajnikanth movie. What triggered them to go is some whatsapp doing the rounds that it is a movie about dalits. They then immediately related the word Kaala to the colour of the dalits. I am quite fair and get a lot of surprises when I tell them that I am Buddhist and this is from all the communities. So my parents assumed Kaala is all about Dalits. They came disappointed that it was about Mafia. But what they were delighted about is that in some of the slum houses they it was shown that they were dalits through photos of Dr. Ambedkar in their shanties. My parents were very proud about that.

It makes me think that are we still fighting for our identity? What is so proud to be about our people shown in slums. Whereas in reality, I am living in a 3 cr property in one of the plush localities in a decent area. But thats the harsh reality of life, when you have to show poor, you have to show dalit or rather when you show a dalit, it has to be poor. Never in movies you will see a Kapoor or a Khanna to be living in slums or to be fighting for food and shelter. What saddens me is my parents are content with the fact that atleast they are shown some where and not bothered about the way they are shown. Whereas the fact remains that the actual slum person would not go in theatre and watch the movie to acknowledge their identity. It is we who can afford to go to multiplex just to see to be portrayed as slum dwellers.

I am not saying that we should start any revolt for wrong representation of our community. What is truth needs to be accepted. But there is more truth to it which is hardly shown anywhere. It is we who will have to change this perception. How I dont know yet hence to start with, I wrote this article. Just like in Ae dil Hai Mushkil, all the characters were muslim yet quite uber in lifestyle, not typical gaudy green clothes, jewellery and some paintings of mosque, urdu and the likes. Its time now to accept that every religion have started living the life of a normal Indian, with every girl following style of kate middletown and meghan.

For the creative heads, its still a challenge how to represent sensitive issues without directly pointing on it and at the same time take care of sentiments of everyone. It is actually a challenging task to show all aspects of a character in such a short frame.

Once upon a time in Mumbai

Maine apne jeene ka tarika badla hai tevar nahi.....

Zindagi ho toh gangster jaise....duniya raakh ki tarah niche n khud dhue ki tarah upar....

Main woh dhanda karta hu jiske ijazat sarkar nahi deti....woh dhanda nahi karta jiski ijazat zameer nahi deta....

An underworld drama is incomplete without dialogues. In once upon a time in mumbai you won't have this complaint. Its full of drama, action, emotions, startegy, planning, conjusted lanes, lavish lifestlye, everything that depicts the life of a smuggler. Inspired of haji mastan's life as what they say everywhere except balaji's office....the story revolves arround a boy who worked in a coal mine n then later on took on to smuggling to achieve his dreams of money, power n fame. Fair enough....Ajay devgan has done justice to the role....wat acting n character depiction...no one could have done better than him. He did it wth ease unlike emraan hashmi who no matter what he do it looked all fake. i think he still needs to be under bhatt camp n experiment with their money, learn some acting skill n then take on the risk of other banners. Thought our Sultan mirza is a smuggler but a man of principles( choro mein bhi imandaar chor) categry. He fell in love with mumbai city n conquers it pretty well n also manages a team of dons within the city limits. One wrong person in the gang and everything is finishes. n that wrong person has to be emran hashmi, wrong for the gang, wrong for the role n wrong for the movie. Well Shoaib enters the gang having dreams bigger than sultan mirza n hence in that haste screws up everything....expanding the business through drugs, alcohol, ransom etc which ofcourse is not in compliance with the rule book of sultan mirza business. As usual rival take up shoaib in their team n every the game is finished whic every cine goer knows.

Randeep Hooda as ACP has done a fabulous job, he can do more of gangster or inspector roles....it suits his personality. His decisions go wrong in some cases like letting off with shoaib n waiting for the right moment but again thats the characters demand to which hooda has done complete justice. Kanagana Ranaut has done a great job without overdoing her fashion stint. Prachi desai is jsut like prachi desai...filler.

Brownie points for Ajay devgan...being a smuggler also u feel he is right. thats the power of character n the power of an actor who potrays the character. Background score suits the complete environemny especially the signature tune of sultan mirza.

I Hate Luv Storys- Love the name only

The name is really catchy. But thats limited only till there. Audience is pulled by the name only n no efforts to hold them back. Its a general guy meets girl story wherein guy doesnt believe in love. Common even if its not a romantic movie, first 1hr is dedicated to such story to shape up further for more complications. All the stories begin from here and end somewhere else. But these days its the trend to stick to 1 topic drag it or make it crisp n finish it in 2 hr. Punit has done the 2 hr part right. The plot- guy is rich n lives on his own doing job that excites him, girl believes in love n enjoys herself n is all happy abt her life. Guy meets girl. Initially no spark but the girl falls for him (v cannot see that n still feel no spark) but thats not the case in the movie. Anyways after girl leaves him he realises n finally they both live happilly ever after n guy believes in love. More of a bachna ae hasino but with only one experience n one story, one girl.

overall a good entertainer. Time pass. Its a crime to expect a masterpiece thse days. Good locations, sets, merchandising n good job by Imran Khan. Whole movie is drived by him. Good punches, spoofs of yash raj films are quite entertaining without being overdone. Sonam kapoor looks good (prerequisite for being an actress is done) but other elements like acting n expressions needs to be worked upon. But no worries Katrina Kaif, Bipasha Basu has done it....Deepika is there for company. Bollywood gives ample chance n time n audience has no choice. So we are ok.

1 story, million problems, 1 solution- 2 states

Finally 21 sets key solutions for love problems. It is a guide for people trapped in a situation called love. Love always sells be it through Shah Rukh Khan, Enrique, Rakhi Sawant, Boyzone, Archies, eifel tower, chocolates, autumn leaves, lic ads, etc. Now Chetan Bhagat has joined the clan and why not when he has such an interesting and convincing story to tell.

The plot of IIM grad couple - punjabi guy and south indian girl is enough to catch eyeballs because of their religion and as the name suggest states. its a tough ride for a hardcore non-veg eating punjabi guy to be accepted by a traditional south indian family and vice a versa. But thats where chetan bhagat comes to rescue. The calmness with which every act of the couple is planned not forgetting the romance tempo high after the end of every page is quite commendable

Customs and distinct features of both the religions is carved out exceptionally well making it commercially acceptable for everyone especially the two religions involved. Cross cultural ideas, differences and outlook on a particular issue like food(paneer) gives an emotinal high to punjabi's or reading The Hindu is a religion for tamilians is quite hilarious. At the same time everything is so apt to the situations that one can't help but just keep on reading...

Few issues which are off the track but still makes an impact like rivalry among IIM A and other IIM's in office, craze for cracking the IIT entrance among the teenagers, importance of owning a petrol pump in a punjabi family, etc just can't go unnoticed.

Over all a must read for people in love even if they belong to same religion. Its a guide for everyone on how to enter your lover's family and win them. But don't keep in reach of parents because they just might get to know your itentions when u invite your frnd over dinner. paisa vasool book mostly for its entertainment value. Happy Reading!!!

Main aur Mrs. Khanna review

Simple story with a fresh screenplay. As it was expected we are running out of scripts so the hit formula is to turn the table. Same story with a different angle and if not superhit it creates an avg impact. Who doesn't love to see the age old boy meets girl story. But hold on, here the story is bit further showing what exactly happens after boy -girl meet and actually get married.

So the starting only is a bit confusing. Samir (Salman) and Raina aka Mrs. khanna (kareena) are married but not heavily in love with each other. Getting married against parents and settling down in melbourne a good move. The good part of it was no intervntion of parents disagreeing, guilty feelings, main sab chodke aayi, tumharre liye apne mata pita ko chod diya.....etc nonsense. But further the moves are lost. Samir loses his job and needs to shift to another country altogether. Raina like a good wife decides to follow her husband. Thanx for sparing the melodrama of ego clashes there. She quitely takes up the job at airport, makes frnds with other stars of the film. Akshay (Sohail) likes Raina but as stated in the movie who wouldn't fall in love with a perfect figure lady, with milky white complexion, perfect hair (2-3 hrs of efforts by make up man) n ofcourse the hot but decent n wearable dresses and a parade of fashionable bags n footwear. So our Akshay is left with no choice but to love her. The work permit problems are always a rescue for films based in abroad. here it does it one more time. Akshay agrees to marry Raina (as if given a choice he wud have refused it).
After all the problems n solutions comes our Sameer to blow away everything. But the best part is no one gets blowed away and after few entertaining shadyantras of our lover boy sameer gets a hard time. After one sad sequence which was need of the hr for everyone in the film, the choice is left to Raina.

Loopholes : Which airport shop salesgirl gets a full fledged terrace flat with huge book shelf n books to keep on it. Gone are the days when people used to loose hope when they wud come to know of the fact that opposite person in engaged. here the females is married still line maaroing is on and if that was not enough even after when her husband has come there are tricks to shoo him away. Thats too much.

Over all a good entertainer...no pauses, now dragging along. The movie gets over in one go. Good crisp editing, especially the airport scenes where Raina is left all alone. Kareena's acting is worth appeciating. And so is sohail Khan's. Its always a risk to watch sohail khan in home poductions where salman khan is hero and sohail khan is also in race for heroine. But thankfully the maine pyar kyu kiya or god tussi gr8 ho effect does not haunt us here and Sohail Khan was quite in character n quite in control. Yash Tonk always makes his presence felt and he does it again with this movie. Deepal Shaw, Nauheed Cyrusi (good thought that u gave up main lead roles) and Bappi Lahiri did a perfect job. Salman Khan looked a bit old for the newly married couple....a younger hero wud have done wonders but doubt if he looked arrogant n matures which salman did fabulously with his straight face expressions and drowsy eyes. But he needs to look younger and maintain himself he has to survive in industry for such roles. Locations, clothes, accessories all were perfect and the set of airport looked quite real. Good job by art director there. A good attempt by Prem Soni, next time more attention to fresh story won't harm. But overall a good time pass for 2 hrs...1 time watch.

Indian truth for the Ugly Truth

The Ugly Truth - the movie is a nice one. These kind of movies are harmless and generally come in the category of feel good, pure entertainment, so true types. There have been number of such movies where you get tips to patao a girl/guy- unknowingly falling in love- never admitting u love, hero heroine blaming each other for not confessing thier love and finally that magical kiss does it for them, etc etc. But such hollywood movies can't really help us- the Indian audience. So we also have our own version like Rules Pyaar ka Superhit Formula, Pyar Ke Side Effects, and in the main stream our own King of romance giving lessons of "6 din ladki in" in the moive Kal Ho Na Ho. These lessons help in the initial stages (that too only if ur target hasn't seen these movies...or else u stand a thin chance), you need to see whether your situation and comfort level is the same as depicted in the movies or else you have to watch more movies where you get to that stage...
Coming back to The Ugly Truth. Katherine as usual is completely in the character as every girl cannot help but say 'thats exactly my life' n every guy wud want her to be his girlfriend. Gerard Butler a refreshing change from P.S I Love you. The screenplay is fast and thats fantastic for us because its already english movie, they cannot expect us to be patient for hollywood we have it reserved for our bollywood ones. The rules for getting a guy is well reserached....now a days college going kid also have thier own mantra. But its always refreshing to watch the lighter side of romance and be happy about it. Few of the truth mentioned by our Love guru are really ugly and really true like never crticize, always laugh on jokes etc etc.. and the entry scene of Gerard shoould not be missed for anything....watch for the 4 rules to get a guy. The end is perfect...after a gr8 confusion the matter is sorted out on TV (just as our Salman, Shahid, SRK wud do) ....one cannot ask for more.
In a nutshell good movie nothing new...but again u cannot ask for more freshness in such topics because its love served in a different platter. And love in all form is accepted be it Qayamat se Qayamat Tak, Maine Pyaar Kiya, Sweet November, Titanic, A walk to Remember, etc..etc. every time you watch it every time you say ''how cool'' n every time u want to fall in love. Now add one more to your list - The Ugly Truth.
